UBC, 1992, BSc, Agriculture (Soil Science)

Inkeri (Vaisanen) Meharg was born in Vancouver in 1968, and grew up on an orchard in Summerland, BC. She received a BSc (Agr) in Soil Science in 1992. After graduation, her first job as a soil scientist was for Pottinger Gaherty Environmental Consultants Ltd. (PGL). She spent six months living and working at a large ranch near Merritt, BC, researching land application of newspaper de-inking sludge.

After taking some time off to travel (not for the first time!) she joined PGL full time and spent two years working on contaminated site investigations and organic waste management projects. In early 1995 she moved to England to hook up with a really cute Irish fellow. After returning to Vancouver in 1997, she worked for EvEco Consultants Ltd. until fall 2000. Since then, she has taken some time off from consulting, and is looking forward to becoming a mom in March, 2002. She is considering taking some professional writing courses to shift towards more freelance technical writing work. She continues to work occasionally on contract, and keeps involved with the BC Institute of Agrologists as a registered PAg, and with the Pacific Regional Soil Science Society (PRSSS). Her involvement with these professional associations has been very rewarding, and has helped her stay connected and up-to-date on the issues facing our resource sectors and the people who work in them.

As of fall 2001, she lives in Vancouver with husband Paul Meharg, and baby #1 on the way.
