University of British Columbia, 1988, BSc, Agriculture (Plant Science)

Carl Withler was born in Victoria, BC, in 1965 and received a BSc (Agr) with a Major in Plant Science (Range Management) in 1988.

Carl holds a position as the Range and Recreation Officer for Boundary Forest District. Highlights of his career include assisting in the development of sections of the Forest Practices Code; working cooperatively with local community groups to develop a recreational infrastructure; and serving as President of the BC Institute of Agrologists.

In recalling his memories of student life at UBC Carl states that

“Although my association with the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences brings back very good memories, my fondest memories relate to the people I met at U.B.C. I came from a small town and was a little overwhelmed by the campus. Fortunately there were 10,000 other undergraduates in the same boat and we regularly crossed paths and became friends. I was also fortunate enough to hook up with the rowing team which kept me in the beer parlours and generally in one form of trouble or another.”

Carl and wife Isabel reside in Grand Forks, BC, and they have one son (Michael).
