Brian Johnston was born in Burnaby, BC, in 1959 and received a BSc (Agr) with a Major in Plant Science in 1982.
“Upon graduating I worked for Dr Bob Vernon of Agriculture Canada on the Lettuce Aphid Survey project in Cloverdale. In early 1983 I was hired by Coast Agri Crop Supplies, part of what was then East Chilliwack Agricultural Co-operatives. I began as a technical sales desk clerk and did that for two years, then became a technical sales representative for the same company, selling crop supplies and advising fruit and vegetable growers on production issues. In 1989 I became Technical Resource Person, then Systems and Customer Service Manager two years following that. At present I am Sales and Marketing Manager for agricultural crops, including fruit and vegetable as well as forages. I am also Product Manager for the company. A year ago Coast Agri became TerraLink Horticulture Inc under new owners. Otherwise I have worked at the same establishment since I was hired in 1983.”
In recalling some of his experiences as a student at UBC, Mr Johnston mentions Dr. Bob Copeman “because he related what was being taught to real life, something a lot of professors didn’t do.”
He lives in Langley, BC, and has three children (Matthew, Laura and Graeme).
