Alexander Campbell was born in Ellisboro, Saskatchewan, in 1904 and trained as a teacher at Saskatchewan Normal School, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon. He then entered the teaching profession and interrupted this career to undertake studies at the University of Saskatchewan and UBC, graduating with a BA from UBC in 1934 and a BSA (Major in Agricultural Mechanics) in 1936.
Mr Campbell’s teaching career included service as Principal of Assiniboine Public School, Saskatoon, and Principal of Saskatoon Collegiate School. During World War II he served in the Reserve Air Force as a Flight Officer with the Air Cadet League.
Mr Campbell was very active in the community, serving as a member of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation; Secretary of the Assiniboine Horticultural Society; Secretary of the Assiniboine Public and High School Boards; Secretary of the Saskatchewan Beekeepers’ Association; Chairman of the Property Committee and Member of the Board of Stewards of Grace United Church, Saskatoon; Advisor to the Saskatoon Home Builders Coop Association; Coach of Nutana Collegiate Provincial Soccer Champions; and Member of the Little Theatre Clubs in Assiniboine and Saskatoon.
Mr Campbell served as an Instructor in the UBC Department of Agricultural Mechanics for some time in the early 1950’s.
Following retirement Mr and Mrs Campbell (Margaret) moved to Saskatoon then Edmonton.
